DARCIE ROBERTS
Darcie Roberts Magino is an actress, singer, and dancer best known for her work in Broadway Musicals and National Tours. Versatile and talented she made her Broadway debut at 19 in the Tony Award winning musical, CRAZY FOR YOU in which she covered Jody Benson in the leading role of Polly. Co-starring opposite Tommy Tune in the pre-Broadway tour of BUSKER ALLEY she earned critical acclaim originating the role of Libby St. Alban. Darcie created the role of Millie Dillmount in NYC’s NAMT Festival and then was cast in the First National Tour of THROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE for which she won a Helen Hayes Award nomination for Best Actress in a Musical. Ms. Roberts has appeared in Broadway leading roles of the original productions of DREAM, AIDA, and CURTAINS. She originated the triple-threat lead role of Lola, starring in the First National (pre-)Broadway Tour of Barry Manilow’s COPACABANA. Darcie was a member of the Pre-Broadway production of LEAP OF FAITH, produced by LA Center Theatre Group as Rita and was understudy to Brooke Shields. Prior to her Broadway debut, Darcie starred in the European Tour of 42nd STREET as Peggy Sawyer and was seen in the First National Tour of ANDREW LLOYD WEBER’S ASPECTS OF LOVE.
A legitimate triple-threat, Variety describes the “leggy” Ms. Roberts’ talents as “vulnerable” and “earnest”, able to make a “potent impression” with “superior comic skills.” The Hollywood Reporter calls her “wonderful” and “versatile”. Her portrayals have been called “warmhearted” and “instinctive” by the Houston Cronicle, while her comic turns have been compared to Buster Keaton, Lucille Ball, and Carol Burnett by critics around the country. The Philadelphia Inquirer said that “Darcie has a winning freshness, a sturdy singing voice and an uncommonly intelligent way with a lyric” and Tommy Tune called Darcie’s singing, dancing, and acting a “dream” while Theatre Week has described her voice as a church bell echoning through an umpopulated landscape.
In New York, Ms. Roberts has helped move the creative process forward by participating in several workshops and readings including Encore’s ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER, Playwrights Horizon’s THE BUBBLY BLACK GIRL SHEDS HER CHAMELEON SKIN, Tommy Tune’s EASTER PARADE, The York's BILLION DOLLAR BABY, MUSCLE, FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD, LYRES, AMERICA’S SWEETHEART, GOOD NEWS, and LIBERTY SMITH. In LA, she has been apart of the pre-Broadway productions of Center Theatre Group’s LEAP OF FAITH, CURTAINS, and appeared in a one night tribute to Carl Reiner in ENTER LAUGHING. Other original regional productions include Musical Theatre West’s productions of Roger Bean’s THE ANDREW BROTHERS, SILK STOCKINGS, and his Laguna Playhouse’s and MTWest’s productions of THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES.
Darcie began her career at Music Theatre of Wichita where since she has been seen in 9 to 5 (Judy), CURTAINS (Georgia), SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE (Patti), A CHORUS LINE (Maggie), RAGTIME (Mother), GIGI (Gigi), MY FAIR LADY (Eliza Doolittle), STATE FAIR (Emily), 1776 (Martha Jefferson), ANNIE (Lili St. Regis), CRAZY FOR YOU (Polly), 42nd Street (Peggy) and FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (Tzeitel).

Darcie has appeared in concert for the LINCOLN CENTER SONGBOOK SERIES with Jeanine Tesori, as a guest vocalist in evenings with Jason Robert Brown, Bea Arthur and Angela Lansberry and has starred with the MEMPHIS and PHOENIX SYMPHONYS. She can be heard on the Original Cast Recordings of CURTAINS, WINTER WONDERETTES, and BILLION DOLLAR BABY and has done vocal studio work for Disney, HBO, and Radio City Music Hall.
Ms. Roberts has been awarded the Drama-Logue Best Actress Award for Lizzy in BABY, an Independent Best Actress Award for Sally Bowles in CABARET and a received Best Actress in a Musical nominations for the Helen Hayes Awards, National Touring Awards and Barrymore Awards for her work in THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE (Millie), COPACABANA (Lola) and for her Walnut Street’s Production of CRAZY FOR YOU as Polly Baker, respectively.
